Prayer of the Heart Teaching E-Mail List (List founded: January 10,1999) Bill Ryan, M.A list owner and moderator Jean Woessner, co-moderator (List founded January 10,1999) This list is moderated list of mentoring and support, not a discussion list, devoted to the practice of the Prayer of the Heart. Prayer of the Heart is another name for Contemplative Prayer. Prayer of the Heart, the ancient practice of inner communion with God refers to movement from thinking about God in concepts and images the prayer of the mind, to speaking to God in words- the prayer of the lips, to experiencing God in the heart, the biblical term for the center of our being. There we come to know, in the words of the author of "The Cloud of Unknowing."   "God's being is our being!"  Bishop Kallistos Ware of Orthodox Christianity summarized the Prayer of the Heart in this way: " The Kingdom of Heaven is within each one of us. To pray, quite simply, is to enter this inner Kingdom of our heart, and there to stand before God, quite conscious of His Indwelling Presence: 'to pray ceaselessly,' is to do this constantly... "The door is before us, and the key is in our hands."  You will be asked to provide a brief bio as a basis of approval to the list.  Interested persons may Email Bill Ryan at ryan9466@comcast.net to subscribe to the list.
